The 50 kW model is suited to supplementary installations on larger vessels, primary installations on smaller vessels, and mixed configurations where deck geometry makes a full 100 kW layout impractical. It ships with 215 kWh of integrated battery storage as standard.
Specifications
System architecture
Power is routed directly from the DC generator through a DC/DC converter to the battery storage system. This eliminates the need for grid synchronisation -- there is no AC conversion step, no grid frequency matching, and no minimum wind speed threshold imposed by inverter requirements.
Generation begins at 2 m/s and continues through all operating conditions. The battery absorbs generation peaks and supplies vessel loads at a stable voltage, making the system transparent to existing onboard electrical architecture.
The 215 kWh storage capacity handles the generation and load profile of a 50 kW turbine across a full operating day without manual intervention.
Deck layout
The 50 kW turbine's compact footprint and 800 kg unit weight allow mounting in locations inaccessible to larger rotor systems -- including positions at superstructure edges and on secondary deck levels where the venturi effect is strongest.
In a mixed 50/100 kW configuration, the 50 kW units are typically placed at secondary positions that maximise venturi capture while the 100 kW units occupy the primary generation positions. Deck layout optimisation is conducted as part of every installation assessment.
Fuel savings
Average output across 6,500 operating hours per year, after wake and shadow reduction.
Annual electricity production -- equivalent to the annual consumption of approximately 100 European households.
Diesel fuel saved per year at standard marine generator consumption of 0.295 kg/kWh.
Annual fuel cost saving at USD 700--1,000 per tonne. Direct generation only -- drag reduction adds further savings.
A 10--30% wake and shadow reduction is applied for conservative multi-turbine layouts.
Compatibility
The 50 kW unit is compatible with all commercial vessel types where deck access allows mounting and the superstructure geometry creates a venturi effect. It is particularly well suited to vessels where weight distribution or deck obstruction limits the number of 100 kW units that can be deployed, and where supplementary coverage of secondary deck positions is required.
